Coffee bar inaugurated in Zbto

An inaugural programme of coffee bar and distribution of coffee pulper machines was held at district project office, department of land resources, Zunheboto on August 6.

According to a DIPR report, deputy commissioner (DC) Zunheboto, Peter Lichamo, who was the special guest of the programme said that the district had many farmers cultivating coffee, with the potentiality of growing good quality coffee.

He said that it could even compete with the best qualities found across the world. Peter Lichamo lauded the department of land resources for taking up the initiative and for distribution of coffee pulper machines to the beneficiaries.

The DC also informed that a local coffee bar would be opened at the main market area soon.  Meanwhile, speaking at the programme, district land resources officer, Vikugha Kiba recalled how the coffee production was introduced to Zunheboto district in the year 2017 at 65 villages.

He expressed satisfaction that local coffee production had now made its way to the international markets.

The DC pointed out that if the farmers took up coffee cultivation, the economy would change, generating self-employment and livelihood among the youth who could earn enough through coffee cultivation. 

He stated that Zunheboto had about one lakh and eighty six thousand hectares of land for coffee cultivation and if the products remain good, the farmers would sustain.

He also added that the department had distributed 23 lakh planting materials to the farmers and was aiming to grow local, eat local and drink local not only coffee but for other cultivable herbs as well.
