In a commendable move, a local WhatsApp group comprising of residents here has initiated temporary repair of the Wokha District Hospital road, which has remained closed for nearly five months after a culvert collapse in February this year.
The road leading to the District Hospital from Lower Zuvotong Colony has been impassable since heavy rains on the night of February 21, which triggered the collapse of the culvert.
The closure has aggravated commuting difficulties for residents. According to community sources, the group secured steel to fabricate a temporary passage measuring approximately 20 × 7 feet, enabling movement of light vehicles to and from the hospital.
It has been learnt that the Department of Urban Development has sanctioned the work order for the road stretching from Wokha Police point to the District Hospital. However, due to persistent monsoon rains, contractors have stated that construction work would commence only after the rainy season subsides.
