Colony wages war on illicit drugs and alcohol

As part of its fight against alcohol and drugs abuse, Niu colony council members Thursday destroyed drugs, alcohol and other items seized from January-April. Niu colony GB Hozka Awomi informed that the seized items included– sunflower drugs, around 200 spasmo-proxyvon tablets, over 100 bottles of rum/whisky and other items.
He said that these items were being smuggled from nearby Lahorijan area under Karbi Anglong district, and to Dimapur. It was also revealed that after demolition of Dudu colony, near Nagaland check gate, hordes have fled to nearby Dimapur. Hozak pointed out that colony is located near the unmanned porous border area where such items are easily available with drug and alcohol networks.
In view of rising number of youth being ensnared by these contraband, he said the colony has been proactive in carrying out regular checking. Hozka also lamented that there were many students including large number of girls who have become victims of substance abuse. He warned that, henceforth, the colony would expose anyone caught with such items in the public domain with details of the individual, name of parents and also village etc.
While cautioning drug and alcohol users from doing so in the colony jurisdiction, Hozka also appealed to the parents to strictly monitor the activities of their children in order to ensure they do not fall prey to the growing cult of illicit drugs and other substances. Colony leaders led by council chairman S Vitoshe Swu, GBs and others witnessed the destruction of the seized items.
