Despite the slowdown in the economy which has also not left Durga puja celebrants in Nagaland unaffected; yet the mood was not dampened as thousands thronged various pandals in Dimapur. The creative ideas behind construction of some of the pandals was laudable and also the theme to promote a plastic-free society in keeping with the Centre’s theme on the 150th birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi.
This year’s Puja celebrations is being done under the theme “say no to plastic; say yes to life’, under the banner of Hindu Seva Samiti.
This puja, the usual fanfare and loud blaring Bollywood film songs were missing as celebrants offered their homage at the pandals. In a way, the entire puja celebrations this time was a sombre yet joyful occasion.
The Puja committees have also passed several rules for observing the pujas besides imposing a ban on littering in and around the pandals Immersion will take place on October 8.
