Communication gaps caused NTC, DMC issues: Jacob

DIMAPUR, MAY 27 (NPN): Minister for PHED & cooperation, Jacob Zhimomi, Wednesday described the recent developments in Niuland Town Council (NTC) and Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC) as minor issues arising from communication gaps rather than serious disputes, and said both have been resolved amicably.
Speaking to media persons on the sidelines of a programme, Zhimomi said the tussle in NTC over the chairperson’s post was the result of misunderstandings among councillors.
The minister said he intervened and facilitated talks, after which the dissident group withdrew the no-confidence motion against incumbent NTC chairperson Samuel Yepthomi.
Zhimomi further termed the NTC issue as “trivial” and said it was unnecessarily blown out of proportion.
He thanked all councillors for showing maturity and resolving the matter amicably.
On DMC crisis, the minister said the issue has also been resolved through discussions within the government.
Zhimomi stressed that the state was governed by an alliance (earlier NDPP-BJP and now NPF-BJP), and alliance partners must learn to work together despite differences.
“We have to learn to live with each other’s differences and shortcomings,” he said, adding that leaders from both BJP and NPF have now “joined hands again” for the sake of governance.
He emphasised the importance of better communication and dialogue among elected representatives in both the assembly and urban local bodies to prevent such issues in the future.
