Can Youth, in partnership with the Nagaland State Disaster Management Authority (NSDMA) and in collaboration with the Office of the ADC Medziphema and the Medziphema Town Council, successfully concluded a five-day Community First Responder (CFR) training program with a Mock Drill Demonstration on August 2, 2025, at the Medziphema local ground. The event was graced by ADC Medziphema, P. James Swu, who attended as the special guest.
In his address, ADC Medziphema P. James Swu commended the initiative and emphasized the importance of public participation in such critical learning programs. He stated, “A good leader is someone who shares valuable knowledge. Do not keep what you’ve learned to yourself, spread it, teach it, and empower your community.” He urged the participants to take the knowledge gained from the training and extend it to their communities for greater impact.
Founder and chief functionary, Can Youth, Jenpu Rhakho Rongmei, spoke about the significance of rescue operations and the need for community readiness in disaster management. “Disasters often strike suddenly and without warning. This is why preparedness at the individual and community level is essential. The skills being demonstrated today can help save lives, so observe, learn, and share,” he remarked.
Secretary and Director, Can Youth, Zhove Lohe, who chaired the event, in his address highlighted the significance of the training and delivered a brief overview of Can Youth vision and mission, emphasizing role of informed and capable communities in disaster risk reduction.
The Mock Drill was led by project manager, Can Youth, Nuyielu Nyekha, where trainees demonstrated various emergency rescue procedures, including Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR), safe lifting techniques, and responses to real-life scenarios such as choking, fainting, and injuries.
The release added that the CFR training was conducted from July 29, to August 2, focused on equipping individuals with essential lifesaving skills and enhancing community preparedness to respond effectively during emergencies and disasters.
The event concluded with discussion on way forward, including plans to extend community-based training and promote disaster preparedness across Medziphema areas.
