Community-led cherry plantation drive at Longkhum

MOKOKCHUNG, JUN 20 (NPN): A community led Cherry Plantation Drive was carried out at Longkhum village on Saturday, aimed at preserving local plants, promoting eco tourism and protecting nature, in collaboration with the village council.
The programme began with a brief inaugural session where Dr. Yutsung Imchen highlighted the importance of instilling awareness among the community to care for and preserve “Mother Nature.” Village chairman Longkumbo, in his introductory note, expressed appreciation to community volunteers for their support and participation in the initiative.
The drive commenced with a thanksgiving prayer offered by Rev. T. Aka Jamir, pastor of Longkhum Baptist Church. Representatives from the village council, student and youth organisations, SHGs, churches and well wishers participated, distributing saplings to every household and planting them along roadsides, the village playground and sites of historical significance.
