A community piggery project initiated under the 23-Impur Assembly Constituency was launched at Kobulong on Tuesday under the patronage of advisor Law & Justice, Land Revenue, T.N. Mannen.
Under the project, 169 piglets were distributed to over a hundred beneficiaries selected from villages across the constituency. The initiative is funded under the District Plan Allocation beginning 2025–26 and will continue in subsequent years.
Delivering the keynote address, Mannen highlighted the economic potential of piggery farming, describing it as a pioneering venture aimed at collectively harnessing resources to improve livelihoods in a sustainable manner. He said the participatory activity could evolve into a business model through systematic pig breeding and marketing cooperatives. He also acknowledged the ‘Think Tank’ group behind the project formulation and informed that a simple guideline has been prepared to ensure efficient implementation with participatory responsibilities of stakeholders.
On the future prospects, Mannen said establishing a feed compounding unit using locally produced raw materials such as maize, tapioca and other cereals to produce healthy, non-chemical and affordable feeds, which are in high demand but lacking in the district.
Earlier, the advisor felicitated Mongsen Lkr, who recently won the World Kickboxing Championship held in New Delhi. Council chairman of Mopungchuket, Akumjungba, delivered words of encouragement, while technical input was provided by farm manager Dr. N. Yanger Kubzari. The programme concluded with a dedicatory prayer pronounced by I. Lanu Lkr, pastor of Kobulong Baptist Church.
