Minister of Women Resource Development and Horticulture, Salhoutuonuo Kruse formally handed over the key of the water tanker to the 8th Western Urban Panchayat Union (WUPU) chairman Rokobeizo Nyusou on February 6 Officers Hill Colony, Kohima.

A dedication programme of the water tanker was held under the 8th Western Angami AC Urban Area Water Project, under Local Area Development Plan (LAPD) 2025 under the theme, “Our Water, Our Right” marking a significant step toward addressing water scarcity in the region.

In her brief address, Kruse shared her observations while traveling through the Hospital Colony Road, where she witnessed people sharing water due to shortages. Reflecting on her priorities for the year, she emphasized that providing a water tanker would greatly benefit the community, especially during the dry season.

She acknowledged the government’s efforts in improving water supply but noted that many households still face challenges, particularly in areas where water infrastructure is insufficient. With the growing number of households, the demand for water has also increased, making initiatives like this essential, she added.

The minister entrusted the WUPU executives with the responsibility of managing the distribution of water, urging them to ensure that every household receives its fair share. She also advised them to charge a minimal fee for maintenance to sustain the project and expressed her hope that they would serve the community effectively.

She concluded by assuring the public of her continued support, encouraging anyone in need to approach her for assistance. WUPU advisor Khrielakuo delivered the vote of thanks, who also expressed gratitude to the minister for addressing the water crisis and prioritizing the needs of the people.

He highlighted the severe water shortages faced by households during the dry season and affirmed that the water tanker would be a tremendous help to the community. The programme concluded with the formal inauguration of the water tanker. The event was chaired by chairman of the 8th Western Urban Panchayat Union Rokobeizo Nyusou. The ULB councillors of those wards also attended the programme.
