DIMAPUR: State chief minister Dr. Neiphiu Rio on Saturday inaugurated the Lhisemia Multipurpose Building at Khrabvübozou, L. Khel, Kohima Village.
Addressing the gathering, Rio expressed pride over the achievement, stating that the successful completion of the project reflected the spirit of cooperation, unity and mutual understanding between community leaders and members.
He lauded the vision of the leaders who initiated the project, saying the facility would serve and benefit the community for generations to come, a DIPR report stated.
Referring to the construction of the building, Rio noted that despite limited government funding, the collective contributions of the community, both in cash and kind, had enabled the completion of a multipurpose facility that exceeded expectations.
Describing the project as an example for other communities, he urged people not to depend solely on government assistance but to work together with a sense of oneness to achieve greater development.
The chief minister also touched on issues relating to the Naga political issue, the Protected Area Permit (PAP), Inner Line Permit (ILP) and the Register of Indigenous Inhabitants of Nagaland (RIIN).
He further highlighted the importance of customary laws, which enjoy special constitutional protection under Article 371(A) of the Constitution of India.
Rio noted that customary laws continue to play a vital role in land ownership, resource management and traditional dispute resolution among indigenous communities.
Speaking on the occasion, former chief minister Shürhozelie Liezietsu said the land for the building was donated by Lhouvizolie Tsiekhanuo and his family for the benefit of the community.
He expressed appreciation for the wisdom and collective efforts of the community in constructing the facility and urged the younger generation to uphold the values of honesty and truthfulness practised by their elders.
Liezietsu encouraged youth to embrace their cultural heritage and become examples of integrity and uprightness in society.
Advisor for School Education, Dr. Kekhrielhoulie Yhome, also addressed the gathering.
Convenor of the Building Committee, Dr. K.D. Vizo, highlighted the construction process and development of the project.
The programme began with prayers and blessings offered by priest-in-charge of St. Luke Church Phezoucha, Rev. Fr. Keduoneilie Alex Vizo, and pastor of Ebenezer Baptist Church, Rev. Keviyiekielie Linyü.
