Various organisations have strongly condemned the brutal murder of 22-year-old woman on October 25 and called upon law enforcement authorities to expedite investigation and ensure justice is delivered without delay.
WAPO: Western Angami Public Organisation (WAPO) expressed deep grief and outrage over the heinous crime and urged the state government and law enforcement agencies to prosecute the perpetrator(s) to the fullest extent of the law. “The right to life is an inherent and inviolable right and we must not rest until the perpetrator(s) is prosecuted with the harshest extent of the law,” WAPO stated. The organisation also appealed to the public and civil bodies to take a unified stand against such atrocities and extended full support to the bereaved family.
ENWO: Eastern Nagaland Women Organisation (ENWO) expressed anguish and condemned the “heartless act of violence” that claimed the life of a cherished daughter, loving sister and valued member of society. ENWO called for a thorough and impartial investigation and urged the government, civil society and community to work collectively to prevent violence against women and create a safer environment for all. It also conveyed deepest condolences to the grieving family.
STH: Sümi Totimi Hoho (STH) has expressed deep shock, grief and indignation over the brutal murder of 22-year-old, terming the act as appalling and senseless.
In a statement, STH president, Vitoli Rochill and general secretary, Kaholi Rotokha, said the incident has shaken the conscience of society and must be condemned in the strongest possible terms. The organisation conveyed heartfelt condolences and unwavering solidarity to the bereaved family and community, stating that while no words can console such a devastating loss, justice must prevail swiftly and decisively.
STH called upon law enforcement authorities and the investigation team to ensure a transparent, impartial and time-bound probe leading to the immediate arrest and prosecution of all those involved in the heinous crime.
Describing crimes against women as an affront to moral and cultural values, STH urged every section of society to rise together against all forms of violence, protect the dignity of women, and reaffirm collective commitment to peace, justice and humanity.
JKYO: Jakhama Kuda Youth Organization (JKYO) condemned the murder of its bonafide member and appealed to law enforcement agencies to expedite the investigation and ensure justice is delivered at the earliest. JKYO affirmed that it would not remain silent until the accused is put behind bars and justice is served.
SASA: Southern Angami Sports Association (SASA) condemned the “cruel and cold-blooded” murder of 22-year-old woman, a devoted basketball player and inspiration to many young sports enthusiasts. SASA stated that such “inhumane and barbaric” acts have no place in society and urged authorities to leave no stone unturned in apprehending the culprits and awarding them befitting punishment. The association conveyed its deepest condolences and prayed for strength and comfort for the bereaved family.
DDBA: Dimapur District Basketball Association (DDBA) also condemned the murder and described it as a violation of the dignity and safety every woman deserves. DDBA stated that victim was a daughter of Nagaland, full of promise and light, and called for swift and decisive action from law enforcement agencies. The association expressed solidarity with the bereaved family and the people of Jakhama.
BAMD: Basketball Association Mokokchung District (BAMD) has expressed deep shock and grief over the tragic murder and said the incident has left the entire sporting community in disbelief, describing the victim as a vibrant and dedicated sportsperson whose commitment to the game had brought pride to Nagaland. “Losing such a young and talented athlete in such a manner is painful beyond words,” the Association stated.
BAMD strongly condemned the “senseless act of violence” that cut short a life full of potential and welcomed the formation of a Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the case. It urged the government and police authorities to ensure a thorough, transparent and uncompromising investigation so that justice is delivered to the victim and her family.
The Association also appealed to the public to refrain from spreading unverified information and to cooperate with the ongoing investigation.
BAMD also extended its deepest condolences to the bereaved family, her teammates and the basketball fraternity of Nagaland.
