MOKOKCHUNG, OCT 28 (NPN): The Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC), under the directive of the All India Congress Committee (AICC), held a press conference at Elate Hall, Mokokchung, on alleged voter deletions during the ongoing Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls.
AICC observer for the “Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao” campaign, Pranav Shagotra, claimed that over 13 crore names had been deleted from electoral rolls nationwide and alleged that more than 7,900 names had been deleted from Mokokchung district’s 1,56,302 voters.
Shagotra urged Congress workers and the public to verify electoral data at block, booth, district and assembly levels, saying the party would continue its campaign until the alleged irregularities were addressed. NPCC president and Lok Sabha MP S. Supongmeren Jamir called on Booth-Level Agents (BLAs) and party workers to conduct house-to-house verification to determine whether the deletions were genuine.
DCC Mokokchung president I. Temsu Jamir said deletions had been categorised under reasons including permanent migration, absence or untraceability, death and other causes. He said the data was still being examined and further details would emerge after physical verification.
The Congress leaders said the Election Commission had opened a window for house-to-house revision, enabling eligible voters to seek restoration of their names. They urged the public to participate in the verification process to ensure no genuine voter was deprived of the right to vote. They also announced that the INDIA bloc would hold agitations in Delhi on October 30 and 31, followed by a public rally at Ramlila Maidan on November 1, as part of its campaign for democratic rights and accountability over alleged electoral irregularities.
NPCC general secretary and Mokokchung district in-charge Akuonuo Miachieo was also present.
