Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) has demanded removal of ‘Disturbed Area’ tag from Nagaland, besides welcoming the recent High Court order directing the State government to hike salaries of Village Guards. In a statement, NPCC on Tuesday said extension of notification by the Central government declaring Nagaland a ‘Disturbed Area’ was not necessary as the situation was largely peaceful and the Government of India (GoI) was engaged in peaceful and inclusive negotiations with Naga political groups.
“GoI should do away with the double standard of engaging in peaceful negotiations on one hand and on the other imposing the ‘Disturbed Area’ tag on Nagaland, if it is serious about finding solution to the Naga political problem,” the statement demanded.
Meanwhile, NPCC also welcomed the recent judgement of High Court directing the State government to hike the salary of Village Guards from existing Rs 1,500 to Rs 15,000 per month.
“NPCC had in recent tour to border districts had committed to raise the salary of Village Guards if voted to power since the existing salary of Rs 1,500 per month was too meagre and gross injustice with the kind of security duties and responsibilities the VGs were assigned. The State Government should honour the judgement of the Hon’ble High Court without further delay,” the party demanded.
