WOKHA, OCT 27 (NPN): The Wokha District Congress Committee (WDCC) has alleged discrepancies involving 6,547 voters in Wokha district and said it would approach the District Election Officer (DEO) seeking rectification.
Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan, Wokha, on October 27 as part of the nationwide “Vote Bachao, Desh Bachao” campaign, AICC observer Pranav Shagotra said the names were among electors identified as deleted or untraced from a total electorate of 1,88,018 voters in the district.
Shagotra, who is overseeing five districts in the state, claimed that more than 38,000 voters had been identified as deleted or untraced across the districts under his charge. He said party leaders and workers had been tasked with approaching the respective DEOs for corrective action, supported by relevant evidence to facilitate the process.
Lok Sabha MP and NPCC president, S. Supongmeren Jamir, who accompanied Shagotra, said the initiative was aimed at safeguarding citizens’ rights, upholding democratic values and raising concerns over the integrity of the electoral process.
The Congress leaders also demanded the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar.
The press conference was attended by state and district Congress functionaries as well as party workers as part of the campaign to create awareness on electoral roll-related issues.
