IMPHAL, JUNE 5 (NPN): Rajesh Kumar Sethi, national coordinator, AICC minority department and in-charge Manipur, concluded a three-day organizational visit to Manipur aimed at strengthening the minority department and initiating discussions on the formation of a State Minority Advisory Council as directed by AICC minority department national chairman and Rajya Sabha MP Imran Pratapgarhi.
On arrival at Imphal Airport, Sethi was received by MPCC minority department chairman Zakir Hussain Lilong and Md. Allauddin. He later held meetings with senior Congress leaders including PCC president and former chief minister Okram Ibobi Singh, former deputy chief minister Gaikhangam Gangmei, working president Victor Keishing, advocate Rabi Khan, MPCC general secretary (Organisation) Aamir Hussain Khutheibam, former MLA Amin Shah, and others.
Discussions focused on strengthening the minority department, expanding outreach among minority communities, ensuring inclusive representation, and constituting a State Minority A dvisory Council.
Leaders also deliberated on preparations for the forthcoming Assembly elections, particularly the role of minority voters in the Valley and Christian-majority constituencies in the Hill areas.
Sethi also met MLA Surjakumar Okram Singh and CLP leader Keisham Meghachandra Singh to discuss organizational strengthening and election preparedness. In a separate meeting with Victor Keishing and others, the prevailing Naga-Kuki situation was discussed, emphasizing peace, reconciliation, and confidence-building. As part of the visit, Sethi attended a Block Congress meeting in Kshetrigao Assembly Constituency organized by Amin Shah, where issues relating to the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls were discussed. He urged workers to establish Sahayta Kendras to assist voters and prevent wrongful deletion of names.
On the concluding day, Sethi addressed a Booth Level Minority Conference at Lilong Haoreibi Makha Leikai, organized by Advocate Zakir Hussain Lilong. He emphasized booth-level organizational strengthening, safeguarding voters’ rights, and ensuring active minority participation.
Sethi expressed gratitude to Congress leaders and residents for their hospitality, recalling the success of Rahul Gandhi’s Bharat Jodo Nyay Yatra. He announced that Imran Pratapgarhi will soon visit Manipur to review the Minority Department and consult on the proposed Advisory Council.
The visit reaffirmed Congress’ commitment to inclusive politics, social harmony, minority empowerment, and organizational strengthening.
