In a determined bid to revive its political fortunes in Nagaland, the newly appointed All India Congress Committee (AICC) Incharge of Nagaland and Member of Parliament from Odisha, Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka, expressed the party’s commitment to making a victorious comeback both at the Centre and in the state in the 2028 elections.

Addressing a press conference at Congress Bhavan in Kohima on Wednesday, Ulaka met with office bearers of the Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC) and laid out the party’s roadmap for the upcoming years. He underscored the recent reshuffle in Congress leadership, stating that the move was made with the approaching general assembly election in mind.

“With my appointment to this new position, our goal is to leave no stone unturned so that by 2028, we can form the government in Nagaland,” Ulaka asserted.

He credited the people of Nagaland for their resounding support in the last Lok Sabha elections, where Congress candidate S. Supongmeren Jamir emerged victorious against all odds. This show of trust and affection, he said, has been warmly embraced and remembered by the party.

Ulaka took a sharp dig at the present Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP)-Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) government, accusing them of misgovernance and alleging stepmotherly treatment from the Government of India.

“It is high time for a change in Nagaland. The people deserve better governance, free from corruption and filled with solutions to their long-standing issues,” he emphasized.

Outlining the party’s immediate plans, Ulaka announced that the Congress leadership, along with working presidents, would embark on district tours across the state.

They plan to meet different working committees and ensure the formation of state, district, mandal, and block-level committees within the next three months. He said the party aimed at starting identification of potential candidates to contest the next election.

He expressed confidence of Congress returning to power after sensing the positive mood of the people. Beyond political restructuring, Ulaka assured that the Congress party would address critical issues such as road infrastructure, education, unemployment, rising prices, and corruption.

“It’s high time to say no to corruption and do away with the false promises made by Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s government. We are doing our homework to ensure that when the opportunity arises, we are ready to provide good governance both in the state and at the Centre,” he stated.

Echoing similar sentiments, MP S. Supongmeren Jamir welcomed Ulaka’s visit to Nagaland and expressed optimism about the positive changes his leadership could bring. “A leader like Saptagiri Sankar Ulaka having charge of our state will definitely bring transformation. We are confident that together, we will work for the common people and address their pressing issues,” Jamir affirmed.
