Consumer awareness campaign at Tseminyu

Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection under Kohima district, office of the Assistant Controller, LMCP, Kohima in collaboration with the Nagaland Voluntary Consumers Organization, Tseminyu Unit organized a Consumer Awareness program on October 27 at Tseminyu town on the theme “Rights & Responsibilities of Consumers’’. ADC Theodore Yanthan graced the programme as chief guest.
Joint Controller, LM & CP department Haikambe Zeliang in his key note address highlighted the rights of the consumers and the activities of the department.  The chief guest while exhorting the gathering urged the participants to know of the responsibilities and to minimize the habit of taking loans and credits from the shops.
Yanthan said by taking loans the customers tend to forget to check the price and bargain for the commodities due to which the shopkeepers get the opportunity to cheat the consumers. He also asked the gathering to avail the opportunity to learn about the consumer rights.
Assistant controller, LMCP I. Meyimeren Ao, while speaking on the theme, highlighted the six basic rights of the consumers: Right to safety, Right to information, Right to choice, Right to be heard, Right to seek redressal, Right to consumer education. The programme was attended by the public leaders, school students and citizens of Tseminyu town.
