The office of the Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection (LMCP) Kohima and the Kohima District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum, jointly organised consumer awareness campaign on April 30 at Phesama Village, Kohima under the theme “Consumer Rights in the Digital Age.”
Addl. controller & HoD, LMCP Department Bizo M. Kuotsu highlighted on the rights of the consumers, how to get correct weight & measurement and also how the department could prosecute the unscrupulous traders under Legal Metrology Act and Rules.
He also highlighted the importance of declaration in every packaged commodity where the consumers could directly complain to the company as well as to the department and how to get registered under Legal Metrology Packaged Commodities Rules, 2011 from the department.
Kohima District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum member Mhaleno Zashümo Tacü shared on the 6 basic rights of the consumers i.e. Right to safety, Right to information, Right to choice, Right to be heard, Right to seek redressal and Right to consumer education. She also educated on how to seek redressal from the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Forum (District Forum), Nagaland State Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission (State Commission) and The National Commission.
LMCP Department, deputy controller Haikambe Zeliang speaking on the theme said, the rights of the consumers were respected and protected against market abuses and social injustice in this technology age.
The programme was attended by the Phesama Village Council, Phesama Youth Organisation, Phesama Students Union, Phesamiapfü Mechü Krotho, GBs Phesama Village, Phesama Gazetted Officers Krotho, VDB Phesama, rtd. senior officers Phesama, Khel Councils, Churches, Villagers and staffs of Assistant Controller, Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection.
An interaction session was also held with Phesama Gazetted Officers Krotho and elders of the village on how to check the unscrupulous traders and to remedy it. More than 300 leaders from various fields attended the programme.
The programme was led by Phesama Students Union, advisor Thejanguzo Zashümo, invocation by CRC Phesama Pastor Neitsole Mejura and speech on behalf of the village was delivered by Phesama Village Council chairman Vimedo Chuse.
