A consumer awareness programme under the theme “Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection: The Journey Towards Viksit Bharat 2047” was held at DB’s Hall, Chiephobozou, on September 2. The event was jointly organised by the Department of Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection (LMCP), Kohima, and Chiephobozou G.B. Union.
Addressing the gathering as special guest, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) Chiephobozou, Alemyapang Longchar, said that “Viksit Bharat 2047” is the Government of India’s vision to transform the nation into a fully developed country by its centenary of independence.
He called upon consumers to actively participate in this mission and urged them to spread awareness on exercising consumer rights. Delivering the keynote address, Assistant Controller, LMCP Kohima, Shiekhozo, highlighted the role of Legal Metrology in ensuring fair trade practices, accurate measurements, and safeguarding consumer rights. He stated that the department is responsible for enforcing standards in weights and measures, preventing commercial malpractices, and addressing consumer grievances.
Resource person, advocate and retainer lawyer, Kohima (DLSA), Sunjib Rana, spoke on the key provisions of the Consumer Protection Act 2019.
He emphasised the importance of the right to choose, right to safety, right to be heard, right to redressal, and right to awareness. He encouraged participants to be well-informed and proactive in educating others about consumer rights.
The programme was chaired by Dzüvilhou Khano, LMCP Kohima. A short speech was delivered by Kekhrieneinuo Zumvü, Deputy Chairperson, Chiephobozou CTC. Invocation was pronounced by Zayiechükho Rülho, Catechist, and the vote of thanks was delivered by Vineizo Tsürho.
