Department of Legal Metrology & Consumer Protection (LMCP) conducted consumer awareness programmes in Wokha and Mon districts on September 22 and 23 respectively, as part of its ongoing initiative to promote informed citizenship and ethical trade practices under the theme “Legal Metrology and Consumer Protection: The Journey towards Viksit Bharat – 2047”.
In Wokha, the programme was held across four educational institutions—Internal Quality Assurance Cell (IQAC), Mt. Tiyi College; Witter Theological College; Springdale School; and Bethsaida School—in collaboration with the Consumer Rights Organization Wokha.
Delivering the keynote address, Assistant Controller LMCP Wokha, T. Aimong, urged the business community to uphold honesty in trade and called upon youth, students and civil society members to become champions of consumer rights. He emphasized the need for citizens to remain vigilant and courageous in standing up for fairness and justice.
Surenthung Enny, member of the District Consumer Redressal Forum, Wokha, served as resource person and highlighted the six fundamental consumer rights. He stressed the importance of empowering individuals to prevent unfair trade practices and build a transparent marketplace.
Inspector LMCP Wokha, Silo Jemu, delivered the vote of thanks and expressed gratitude to participating institutions and stakeholders for their support and engagement.
In Mon, LMCP in collaboration with Mon Vale College organised a similar programme on September 23. Sr. Inspector LMCP Mon, Er. Nganyei Konyak, spoke on consumer rights and responsibilities, and briefed students on the department’s functions under the Legal Metrology Act 2009, Packaged Commodity Rules and Enforcement Rules. He encouraged students to equip themselves with knowledge and contribute towards the mission of Viksit Bharat 2047.
The programme was chaired by Asst. Professor Yongkai Y Phom and began with an invocation by ex-deaconess KBCM, Toihon. Principal of Mon Vale College, Dr. Eche Wangnyu Konyak, in her welcome address, thanked the department for organising the event and said awareness was key to bringing change.
The initiatives reflect LMCP’s commitment to consumer education and protection, especially among students, and aim to build a generation of responsible citizens who will uphold consumer rights and contribute to a fairer society.
