AACAUT on Friday expressed shock about the seizure of contraband brown sugar weighing 6.9 kgs from the residence of IGP (CID) at the New Police Reserve, Phesema on September 1. ACAUT media cell also sought clarification on various points considering the seriousness and sensitivity of the matter.
ACAUT demanded to know from PHQ as to why was the officer not suspended even till today till investigation was on? After the contraband brown sugar was seized on September 3, ACAUT demanded to know whether GD entry, milkman entries were done and whether an FIR was lodged on the case and if not, then why?
It also wanted to know if any other senior officers were informed by the accused officer, that he was taking the contraband to his private residence? ACAUT pointed out that since narcotic offense was a serious crime, inviting penalty upto 10 years rigorous imprisonment, it demanded to know whether the two contraband carriers, caught at Khuzama check post were still in custody or if released why and under what condition and under whose orders? It also questioned whether the personnel’s under the IGP was questioned on this matter?
ACAUT said that what was however most shocking was the shameful attempt of some officials to hush up such a serious offence. It also lauded the courageous and upright police officials, who risked and dared to raid the house of their own superior and senior ranking rogue official.
On the other hand, ACAUT said it was also extremely worried that the whole situation and the kind of message the case sends. It said unless handled rightly, the case will have serious ramifications on the morale and the moral compass of the police force.
ACAUT also took note of the recommendation for plan of action by the department to the state government which stated “it was a folly of judgement and poor knowledge of the concerned law” by the accused officer. ACAUT described the note as insulting and smacking of biasness to “save the rouge cop and hush up the matter.” ACAUT opined that either the officer in question was incompetent to be a police officer or a cop caught in the act and either way, he has no business to be in police force. It said even a mere public would be aware that seized materials were not supposed to be kept at private residences.
Meanwhile, ACAUT said that the matter was serious and should be immediately handed over to an independent external body for inquiry in order to bring it to a logical conclusion.
