Cooperative education key to sustainable growth: Nagaland State Cooperative Union

A one-day seminar under the theme, “importance of cooperative education to promote the Cooperative movement”, was hosted by Nagaland State Cooperative Union (NSCU) Dimapur at the NSCU Conference Hall, Dimapur on Tuesday. Addressing the gathering, NSCU, CEO Imnanukshi said that the seminar was organized in recognition of 2025 as “International Cooperative Year” with the theme “Cooperative Builds a Better World.”
He emphasized that the theme highlighted the crucial role cooperatives in creating inclusive, equitable, and sustainable economic systems that contribute to achieving the Sustainable Development Goals.
He said the success and growth of the cooperative sector depend on continuous education and training, in line with the principles of cooperation formulated by the International Cooperative Alliance (ICA).
He described cooperatives as a people’s movement and the only organizations where the purest form of democracy is practiced.
He further explained that the primary purpose of a cooperative was to satisfy the social and economic needs of its members, and that cooperative education enabled people to understand the essence of cooperation and participate effectively, thereby fostering economic empowerment and sustainable development within communities.
Through the seminar, participants would learn the philosophy and principles behind the functioning of cooperatives, as well as how to maintain primary books and accounts and manage cooperative societies in an enlightened way, Imnanukshi said.
Altogether, 60 participants from various cooperatives located in different sub-divisions and districts of the state attended the seminar.
After the inaugural session, the seminar commenced with CTC Medziphema lecturer Kegwahi Kent spoke on the topic “Overview of the Cooperative Movement in Nagaland and Principles of Cooperatives.” This was followed by NSCU Dimapur CEO Imnanukshi, who spoke on the topic “Review on the Maintenance of Books of Accounts by Cooperative Societies,” and Dy. RCS (H.Q) Bharati Chhinal, on the topic “Focus on the Management of Cooperative Societies.”
Earlier, the inaugural program was chaired by NSCU vice president, Mohokiya Apon and concluded with a vote of thanks by NSCU office Assistant, Vinush Angami.
