A constable driver of Manipur police department was arrested on the charge of acting as cadre recruiter of an armed group.
Manipur police, in its daily law and order update, said that security forces arrested the constable driver for alleged involvement in recruitment of cadres for a banned militant outfit.
Kongkham Sanajaoba Singh alias Ibomcha (43) of Utlou Chanura in Bishnupur district, was arrested from his locality on Tuesday, it said.
“Despite serving in the Manipur police department, the arrestee was involved in recruitment of cadres for KCP (MFL) as an active cadre of the banned organization,” the police said.
The arrest came amid the ongoing operations in the fringe and vulnerable areas across districts and crackdown on extortion activities. At least three cadres and extortionists belonging to different banned armed groups were arrested In the ongoing operations, the police said.
It said that the security forces arrested an active cadre of RPF/PLA identified as Chingakham Rocky Singh alias Sanathoi alias Ipumba (38) of Andro Torongthel from Ingourok Makha Leikai area under Nongpok Sekmai police station of Thoubal district on Wednesday.
A mobile phone along with a SIM card was seized from him, the police added.
Two PREPAK active cadres who the police termed them as extortionists were also arrested in another operation in Imphal West district on the same day.
They were identified as Nahakpam Sibananda Singh alias Amuthoi (32) and Deviya Mongjam (29).
The police alleged Deviya Mongjam to be the associate of the former who assisted him in the transaction of the extortion money. She was arrested from her residence at Kwakeithel Nganapithong.
