Core committee on Naga political issue constituted

With political negotiations over and as there was need to move swiftly towards a “final solution”, the state government has constituted a core committee on Naga political issue.

Talking to Nagaland Post, deputy chief minister Y. Patton disclosed that a Core Committee was constituted on Wednesday after a meeting. It was earlier learnt that the formation of the core committee was a follow up of the drafting committee on the Naga political issue constituted by Speaker NLA during the last Assembly session held in February, 2021.

Patton said that committee would pursue early and honourable Naga solution with the central leadership. Though no official notification has been issued, Patton said that the committee is scheduled to hold a meeting on June 19 at Chumukedima police complex. He said after the meeting, a delegation will visit Delhi to meet the central leaders.

The committee will be headed by chief minister Neiphiu Rio as chairman, deputy CM and leader of sate BJP legislature party Y Patton and leader of opposition TR Zeliang as the co-convenors. The committee members will include legislators from all the parties– BJP, NPF and Independent MLA and also the two members of Parliament, Patton said. 

PTI adds: Confirming the constitution of the core committee, minister for higher education and tribal affairs, Temjen Imma Along Thursday said it was constituted on Wednesday during a meeting.

The leader of opposition TR Zeliang also confirmed, but said that the opposition was yet to receive any official notification.
