CP clamps prohibitory orders

To maintain public peace and orderon the day of counting and post-result declaration of the Urban Local Body elections, Commissioner of Police Dimapur, Kevithuto Sophie, has issued a prohibitory order with effect from 6 a.m. of June 29 till 6 a.m. of June 30 in three districts–Dimapur, Chümoukedima, and Niuland.


In an order, CP banned holding processions, rallies, public meetings by any candidate/political parties, and unauthorized use of PA systems and loudspeakers to prevent public nuisance or disturbance. CP also banned carrying lethal weapons and firearms in public places, including lathis, machetes/daos, daggers, sticks, spears, swords, catapults, etc. Additionally, CP prohibited the bursting of crackers and carrying any inflammable objects that may endanger public life and property. CP warned that any individual or group found in contravention of the order shall be liable for punitive action.
