CP crime report: 712 persons arrested for various crimes in 2023

The yearly crime report released by Commissionerate of Police (CP) office Dimapur disclosed that a total of 712 persons were arrested and 814 cases registered under Indian Penal Code and Special & Local Laws as on December 21. As per the comparative crime statistics report (Dimapur, Chümoukedima and Niuland districts), CP office said that arrests under Narcotic-Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act topped the list. A total of 88 cases were registered under NDPS Act, resulting in the arrest on 149 persons and seizure items worth Rs. 12,98,39,100. Second in the list was NLTP Act, where 126 cases were registered leading to the arrest of 129 persons and seizure of 15946.5 litres of various brand of IMFL.


Other arrests under IPC include– Murder (10 arrested), attempt to murder (1), culpable homicide not amounting to murder (6), rape (1), kidnapping & abduction (61), robbery (3), theft (99), burglary (11), criminal breach of trust (34), cheating (9), forgery (16), grievous hurt (2) assault on women (6), extortion (62), causing death due to negligence (18), incidence of rash driving (6), other IPC (25).
Arrest under SLL– NDPS Act (149), NLTP Act (129), Arms Act (50), Foreigners Act (1), Explosive Act (1), Copyright Act (5) and POCSO Act (7).


Under extortion related cases, besides arresting 62 persons, police also seized five arms, 90 rounds of ammunition, cash Rs 18,81,210 and 78 numbers of SP cap. Under Arms Act, 59 arms were seized, 3565 ammunition, 100 gms of gun powder and cash Rs 4,75,330.
