Expressing concern over the recruitment process in the police for 12 Battalion of the Indian Reserve Battalion (IRB) and other State Police recruitments , Chakhesang Public Organisation(CPO) urged for intervention of the chief minster.
In a representation to the CM, the CPO president Vezuhu Keyho and general secretary Chepetso Koza claimed that police department was contemplating on continuation of the recruitment model previously adopted during the raisings of 9th, 10th, and 11th IR Battalions in 1999, 2002 and 2005 respectively.
CPO said the proposed recruitment chart was based on “outdated and inaccurate population data” drawn from 1991 and 2001 census reports.
It said the old model not only disregarded the current demographic realities but also contravened the existing state recruitment policy and the provisions of the job reservation policy meant for Backward Tribes (BTs).
CPO alleged that such a critical recruitment exercise was being planned without adherence to the official policy framework. CPO expressed dismay that an independent and arbitrary model was being manufactured that potentially disturbed the social fabric and harmony in Nagaland.
It stated that of the government’s objective was to ensure equitable representation of police forces across the districts, then distribution should be made based on the most recent and legitimate 2011census data to ensure fair opportunity for all indigenous tribes of Nagaland.
Therefore, CPO has appealed to the chief minister to address the issue with urgency, correct past discrepancies and initiate a robust policy framework that promotes justice, equity, and equal opportunity.
