CPS observes ‘Celebrating Childhood’

Child protection services (CPS) department of Social Welfare Kohima organized state level mega event on child rights and protection on celebrating childhood at RCEMPA Jotsoma Kohima on Thursday.
Society director CPS Nagaland Chubainla Jamir in her brief address said the department faced lots of challenges in regard to child rights and protection. She called upon the gathering to work together to give every child a reason to live. Jamir released coffee table book on the title “The journey so far –child protection services Nagaland department of social welfare” 
Commissioner and secretary of Social Welfare and chairman CPS Nagaland Sarah R. Ritse while launching the screening of short films said that activities carried out by the department may not always show through data but what counted most was bringing smiles to the children. She said many broken families were restored through intervention by the department, whereby she added that the short films would create awareness to the children about their rights.
On the occasion there was cultural dance competition from all the 11 districts, wherein Bright Morning Star Children’s Home Kohima bagged the first prize, Zavmast Children Home at Khulazu Basa in Phek district bagged the second prize and Langsa Hill Children’s Home Mon bagged the third prize. In the photography competition conducted by CPS on the theme “Children of Nagaland”, Yabangchiri Changchiri bagged the first prize, Chizokho Vero bagged the second prize and Vishü Rita Krocha and Nungkha Longkumer bagged consolation prizes. Altogether 133 persons participated at the competition and M Doulo and Rokovor Vihienuo were the judges.
Aolemla Imsong, superintendent of Observation Home Zunheboto who chaired the programme said children are full of energy, ideas and hope for the future but they were also facing lots of threats. She said some of the basic rights that every child must have included survival, family, health, education, safety, play and culture.
Child protection services website was also launched by director of Social Welfare K. Atoli Sema. Invocation prayer was said by Temjen Sempo pastor Kohima Ao Baptist Church and welcome song presented by Children of Kohima Orphanage and Destitute Home.
