Crackdown on sale of tobacco near prohibited zones

DIMAPUR

District administration Tuensang, in coordination with officials from Police, Excise, National Tobacco Control Programme (NTCP) Tuensang, Tuensang Town Council, and Tuensang Chamber of Commerce, carried out a joint inspection on October 13 targeting shops selling tobacco products in prohibited zones.
According to DIPR report, the inspection was conducted in adherence to the Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products Act (COTPA) 2003, focusing on outlets operating within the vicinity of educational institutions and healthcare establishments in Tuensang Town.
During the operation, tobacco products found in violation of the Act were seized and subsequently destroyed under the supervision of the District Administration and Police. The drive aimed to reinforce public health safeguards and ensure compliance with tobacco control regulations.
