Dimapur police seize nearly 20k suspected codeine syrup bottles
DIMAPUR, AUG 26 (NPN): Continuing the state government’s “War on Drugs,” the Dimapur police on Tuesday evening raided a warehouse at Marwari Patti, Dimapur and seized 19,760 bottles of suspected codeine-based cough syrup.
According to Dimapur police PRO, a team from the sub-urban police station, acting on credible intelligence, raided the warehouse at House No. 23-B, Jain Temple Road, Marwari Patti under the supervision and guidance of the commissioner of police, Dimapur.
When the tenant failed to respond despite repeated calls, ACP (West) authorised and supervised the opening of the locked godown.
PRO said the entire search was conducted in the presence of independent local witnesses and digitally documented through the e-Sakshya platform to ensure transparency.
During the search, police recovered 126 cartons containing 19,760 bottles of suspected codeine-based cough syrup.
The seizure included 101 cartons of Bescod cough syrup containing 16,160 bottles and 25 cartons of EB-DYL cough syrup containing 3,600 bottles.
Several other unaccounted pharmaceutical products were also taken into safe custody for verification.
PRO said a suo motu case has been registered at sub-urban police station under Section 21(C) of the NDPS Act.
PRO informed that investigation was underway to identify the warehouse operators, track the supply chain and dismantle the local distribution network.
Dimapur police have appealed to the public and civil society organisations to provide information regarding the sale of any form of narcotic drugs to the nearest police station. Police assured that the identity of informants would be kept confidential.
