One-day creative writing workshops were organised at Sao Chang College, Tuensang and MGM College Dimapur, aimed at nurturing literary expression and promoting writing as a tool for personal growth and social transformation.
At Sao Chang College, Tuensang, the workshop was held on October 6, organised by the Literary and Magazine Committee. Renowned author and educator Dr. Inakali Assumi served as the resource person. The event was chaired by Dr. Soyimla Akum, Coordinator of the Committee, while principal Dr. Lanurenla, in her address, encouraged students to embrace writing as a powerful medium for change, stating that “The voice of the writer is the biggest way to change the world.”
The workshop featured two sessions. The first, “Techniques and Insights on Developing Structure, Characters and Dialogue in Writing,” focused on storytelling fundamentals, including the six types of conflict and character development. Dr. Assumi emphasized the importance of research and contextual understanding in creative writing.
The second session, “From Editing to Publishing: Navigating the Writer’s Journey,” addressed the challenges faced by writers. Dr. Assumi urged participants to remain authentic, noting that sensitivity is a strength. She advised aspiring authors to refine their work before pursuing publication.
Participants engaged in group activities and shared reflections, making both workshops interactive and enriching. The Sao Chang College programme concluded with closing remarks from Mr. Langnyei Imlichuba Phom, Assistant Professor, Department of History, who commended the organizing team and the insights shared.
Meanwhile, at MGM College, the Department of English conducted the workshop on October 4 under the theme “Writing for Therapy.” According to a press release, the session was facilitated by Otoli V.
