The Commissionerate Police, Dimapur, has released comparative crime statistics for Chümoukedima, Dimapur, and Niuland districts for the year 2024, up to December 21.
A total of 618 cases were registered under the Indian Penal Code (IPC) and Special and Local Laws (SLL), with 577 persons arrested as on December 21, 2024.
A total of 445 IPC cases were registered, with 318 arrests. They include nine arrests in connection with six murder cases, 21 kidnapping & abduction (57 arrests), 206 theft (75 arrests), 47 extortion cases (63 arrests).
A total of 173 cases were registered under SLL, with 259 arrests. They include 51 cases under NDPS Act with 116 arrests, 73 NLTP Act cases (81 arrests), 32 Arms Act cases (48 arrests), two Explosive Act cases with 2 arrest, one ITA Act case (nil arrest), 13 POCSO Act cases with 11 arrest and one case and one arrest under other local special laws
Under NDPS Act cases, police seized 5.48 kgs of heroin/sunglower/brown sugar worth over Rs. 1.64 crore, 1381 SP capsule (Rs. 34525), 320 Alprazolam/nitro tab worth Rs. 1600, 19026 cough syrup worth over Rs. 19 lakhs, 397 world is yours tab. (Rs. 19850), 446 kgs of ganja worth over Rs. 5 lakhs, over 8.7 kgs of opium worth Rs. 8702000, 348 grams of crystal meth (Rs. 3480000) and cash amounting to Rs. 274062.
Further, in connection with 47 extortion cases police extortion slips, four arms, 15 rounds of ammunition, one hand grenade, and Rs.15.27 lakh in cash.
Under Arms act, police seized 65 arms, 228 rounds of ammunition, one hand grenade, and Rs. 4,120 in cash. NLTP Act cases: 7,661.67 liters of liquor of various brands of IMFL were seized by police.
