Crime data released by the Superintendent of Police State Crime Records Bureau (SCRB) for Dimapur district has revealed a mixed trend for the years 2024 and 2025 (up to August)
While the overall number of cases registered under Indian Penal Code/Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (IPC/BNS) and Special and Local Laws (SLL) showed a decline, certain serious offences such as murder, burglary, and Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act violations recorded sharp increases. According to the data, 469 cases were registered under IPC/BNS in 2024, compared to 363 in 2025 (up to August). Under Special and Local Laws, 165 cases were recorded in 2024 and 92 in 2025 (up to August).
Murder cases increased from six in 2024 to eight in 2025, while criminal trespass/burglary saw a dramatic rise from 12 to 100 cases.
POCSO cases doubled from four to eight, and cheating rose from 11 to 19. In contrast, theft cases dropped sharply from 211 to 80, while kidnapping and abduction fell from 20 to 14.
Extortion cases also declined from 48 to 29, and criminal breach of trust from 66 to 38. Under SLL, cases under the NDPS Act reduced from 52 to 37, and NLTP Act cases fell significantly from 73 to 23. The data further showed a fall in fatal road accidents from 19 in 2024 to 11 in 2025, while cases of molestation or outraging modesty of women dropped from 14 to just two.
