DIMAPUR, JUN 17 (NPN): NSCN (I-M) has imposed Presidential Rule in the Wung Tangkhul Region (WTR) with immediate effect, citing a breakdown of stability that has rendered normal regional administration unfeasible.
According to Ministry of Information and Publicity (MIP), the directive was issued by the Yaruiwo under Article 3 (viii) of the Yehzabo of Nagalim through presidential order dated June 16, 2026.
The decision followed a review by the National Security Council of the Government of the People’s Republic of Nagalim (GPRN).
To ensure effective governance and public order during the period, MIP said a team of provisional authorities has been constituted with ‘maj. gen.’ (Retd) Ramkathing Varah, member of the collective leadership, as convener of the provisional authorities.
MIP stated that all administrative responsibilities previously entrusted to the kilo ministry under memo No. 13/GPRN/ORD-46/Y0/26 dated April 8, 2026, stand transferred to the newly constituted team with immediate effect.
The arrangement will remain in force until normalcy is restored in WTR. NSCN (I-M) appealed to regional officials, civil society organisations and public to cooperate with the provisional authorities in the interest of peace and stability.
In a separate notification, NSCN (I-M) informed that the outbound movement of all commodities, including petroleum products and their derivatives, towards Myanmar has been restricted with immediate effect.
MIP said the restriction was issued by the Yaruiwo, under order dated June 15, 2026, titled “Strict Monitoring Along Indo-Myanmar Border”.
The order further authorized Naga Army to monitor the situation and maintain strict round-the-clock surveillance along the entire stretch of the artificial Indo-Myanmar border until further orders.
The notification stated that the information was being made public for awareness and compliance.
