
Nagaland chief secretary Temjen Toy has directed all stakeholders involved in construction of four-lane road from Patkai to Purana Bazaar to submit latest status report of their activities latest by first week of January 2020.
Addressing a meeting with officials that included DGP, DC Dimapur and 4-lane contractors at his Padam Pukhuri residence here on Monday, Toy expressed regret that the four-lane work from Purana Bazaar to Chumoukedima seemed to have become an indiscipline project.
He advised all the stakeholders to start work immediately in order to ensure visible improvement, especially with regard to flow of traffic and other areas.
Further , Toy also advised traffic personnel to start regulating traffic flow and sit with the contractors to work out designated crossings and make them operational.
Referring to “gap fillings” by the public on the highway as per their convenience, the chief secretary cautioned that filling of gaps by the public should not be allowed.
“We cannot have crossings as per the demand of the people. Only designated crossings should be used so that people get used to a certain system,” he stressed.
The meeting also expressed concern about daily bazaars on the highway, which only add to traffic snarls.
Toy insisted that markets should not spill over to the main road.
“Start enforcing law and the people have to start respecting the law,” he said.
He also advised the district administration to convene a meeting every fortnight with the stakeholders and contractors. He said such fortnightly meetings should work out a solution with regard to land issues hampering laying of pipelines in certain areas, markets affecting flow of traffic, parking issues, autorickshaw licensing and other areas of concern.
The meeting also discussed plantation on Dimapur city stretch of the highway.
The chief secretary asked power department to take a decision on power energy charges of streetlights to be placed on road dividers.
According to DIPR, the meeting was attended by director general of police, Dimapur commissioner of police, Dimapur additional deputy commissioner, administrative officers and officers from all line departments and contractors of Dimapur four-lane project.
