
Nagaland chief secretary Temjen Toy held a meeting with the department heads to discuss issues related to “Swachhata Hi Seva” (cleanliness is service) at the secretariat conference hall here on Monday.
Addressing the meeting, the chief secretary highlighted the importance of getting rid of plastic and stated that there would be disposal of plastic, particularly in the form of garbage, on October 2 that would be sent to cement factory to be taken care of by the urban development department.
Urban development & municipal affairs principal secretary Himato Zhimomi shared details of the “Swachhata Hi Seva – Cleanliness is service 150th years of celebrating the Mahatma” from September 11 to October 2.
He said the next phase of the campaign “do away with plastic” would begin on October 2 and conclude on October 27. HoDs and AHoDs of various departments shared their views and opinions on the mass exercise. All the departments have been instructed to declare offices as single-use plastic free, take Swachhata Hi Seva pledge and participate in the plastic waste collection drive on October 2, issue instructions to all offices not to burn plastic and submit reports with good quality photographs and video clippings in both hard and soft copy for uploading in Swachh Manch portal. The departments have also been asked to provide information on the quantity of plastic waste collected.
Besides this, specific instructions have been issued to rural development department, PHED, urban development & municipal department, PWD (national highways and road & bridges, industries & commerce, tourism, sports & youth resources, art & culture, health & family welfare, school and higher education institutions and police and paramilitary forces to organise various events on October 2.
