CSOs prevent filing nominations

Even as nominations for Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) election entered third day on Thursday, no candidates came out to file the nominations papers for town councils in Kiphire and Zunheboto, as civil society organizations (CSOs) guarded the entrance of DC offices in both the districts.
On Thursday, members of ESH and TTC gathered at Deputy Commissioner office’s complex to restrict the candidates from filing nominations to Kiphire town council. No untoward incident was reported. The three organizations decided to stick to its stand in the event 33% percent reservation is to be implemented in the proposed forthcoming town council election.
ESH and TTC also backed United Sangtam Likhum Pumji on its stand on civic polls after Eastern Nagaland People’s Organisation (ENPO) resolved to leave the matter of holding Urban Local Bodies (ULBs) election in the hands of the respective tribes under its jurisdiction.
Meanwhile, in Pungro, Naga People’s Front (NPF) distributed tickets to nine members at Cultural Hall for Pungro Town Council. Pungro town was upgraded to full-fledged Town Council in 2016. it has nine wards out of which three wards are reserved for women.
In Zunheboto, concerned citizens gathered at DC Office Zunheboto to prevent candidates from filing nominations.
