CSU calls for repairing unsafe roads, bridges in Chümou, Dmu

DIMAPUR, SEP 4 (NPN): Chakhroma Students’ Union (CSU) has urged the responsible authorities to urgently repair and restore roads and bridges at several locations in Dimapur and Chümoukedima, citing unsafe conditions that were causing hardship to commuters and posing risks to public safety.
In a press release, CSU president Menokhrielie Chalieu and education secretary Vibozo Tetso expressed concern over the condition of the Chathe Bridge, the road stretch at 5th Mile-Green Park Junction, and the road near Supermarket Bridge. CSU said the stretches were heavily used by the public, including students travelling to and from educational institutions daily.
The union said the deteriorating condition of the roads and bridges was causing inconvenience and exposing commuters, particularly students, to risks.
It urged the concerned departments and authorities to immediately inspect the affected locations and undertake necessary repair, restoration and maintenance works.
CSU said student and public safety should be given the highest priority, with preventive measures taken wherever existing conditions pose an immediate threat.
The union cautioned that if any accident, injury or loss of life occured because of continued neglect of known hazards, the department and officials responsible for maintaining the roads and bridges should be held accountable.
“Public safety cannot be compromised,” the CSU said and called for swift and decisive action to address the issues before the situation worsened.
