Chizami Students’ Union (CSU) celebrated its 75th anniversary on the theme, “educate, empower, inspire” on December 21.
Speaking at the programme, K.G. Kenye, MP Rajya Sabha, son of late Goyiepra Kenye, founder president of CSU, shared about how the Chakhesang community was an integral part of the greater Naga family.
He pointed out how the Chakhesang community was marching ahead progressively and held a promising future for prosperity.
Kenye thanked the Almighty whose hands had guided them since inception.
He lamented how uprightness, clarity and honesty attributed to them were slwoly eroding and were not visible in their characters anymore.
In this regard, he called upon the gathering to develop and inculcate these traits into their daily lives again.
Meanwhile in his presidential address, Wetshete Thopi emphasised on the need to maintain a balance between modern education and traditional knowledge systems so that they do not lose indigenous values.
He urged upon the gathering to revive and relearn the age-old traditional values handed down by their fore parents alongside the modern education.
The programme began with the unfurling of union flag and unveiling of anniversary plaque. A “knowledge fair” was also conducted as part of the anniversary celebration followed by extravaganza night. Various participants along with the jubilee choir also presented songs.
It may be mentioned that the Chizami Students’ Union was established in 1946 by Goyiepra Kenye, the first graduate among the Chakhesangs.
The union works closely with the village council and local institutions in their endeavour to provide valuable lessons on leadership and awareness on social issues.
