Alleging deficiencies in workmanship of the ongoing construction of the 50-bedded integrated AYUSH Hospital at Sabangya, Mokokchung district, the Chungtia Students’ Union (CSU) has served an ultimatum on the health & family welfare (H&FW) department to conduct a joint technical inspection to assess the structural integrity within ten days in order to verify the quality of construction.
In an ultimatum addressed to the principal director health & family welfare, Chungtia Students’ Union convener Zaongtoshi and president Tsuknungtemsu stated that as per RTI report, a total of Rs. 442.9 lakhs had been sanctioned till now for the construction of ground floor within a period of 24 months and installation of water supply and sanitation.
However, CSU stated that only 65% progress has been made till date though work order was issued six years ago.
The union expressed concern over prolonged delay, which it said has left such an essential hospital incomplete and unable to serve the people in need.
The student body maintained that even if the construction was completed, the compromised quality could lead to premature deterioration or potential failure posing significant risk to public safety.
Therefore, the union has demanded immediate cessation of all construction activities and remain suspended until further notice.
In the absence of technical tests, Chungtia Students’ Union said any assessment or assumption it had made regarding the structural soundness of the hospital would be considered final and binding.
If the results of the technical inspection or assessment indicated that the construction does not meet the required standards, the union said it would be constrained to explore further courses of action, for which the union would not be held accountable for any consequences arising thereafter.
