CTC on ban of import, sale of dog meat

Chumukedima Town Council (CTC) informed that the state government has imposed ban on import and sale of dog meat within the state in consonance with the provision of Food Safety and Standard and Regulation Act.

In an order, SDO (C) and CTC administrator, Thejavizo Nakhro informed that commercial transport and trading of dogs and dog markers; commercial sale of dog meat in the markets and dine in restaurants have been banned with immediate effect.

CTC warned that any individual found violating the order shall be liable for prosecution under Section 428 and 429 of IPC 1860 and Section 11 and Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act 1860 and or any such provisions of law as may be applicable.
