CTC Solid Waste Management Plan launched

Chümoukedima Town Council (CTC) Solid Waste Management Plan (SWMP) was launched at Chümoukedima town council hall here Monday with PHED Minister Jacob Zhimomi as inaugural guest. 

The minister also flagged off fleet of nine sanitation vehicles to be utilized for the SWMP besides launching official website & solid waste management IEC video, unveiling the Material Recovery Facility(MRF) at Chümoukedima ‘A’ village Khuovarüü  (Khopanala) and inaugurating the renovated Chümoukedima town hall at Chümoukedima council office ward-6.

Speaking at the launching programme, Jacob Zhimomi said that waste management has become one of the pertaining subjects in the entire country where even the Prime Minister was taking the lead through Swachh Bharat programme. 

With population growth, Jacob said waste would be generated. He said much was needed to be done, but currently the target given by the Centre and the target prepared by the state government have been achieved for rural Nagaland partially. The minister also stressed on the need for constructing composite pit in one’s surrounding and stopping use of plastic. Jacob reminded that business establishments using plastics would be penalised starting from September. 

Further, the minister expressed concern over the mushrooming brick kilns without obtaining proper license from the government causing environmental pollution and damaging soil fertility. On the occasion, the minister also advised the gathering to remain united and to uphold the social fabric of the Nagas.

Short speeches were delivered by deputy commissioner (DC) Dimapur, Kevekha Kevin Zehol, SDO PHE Watithomson Ao, LiFE NGO, Chümoukedima chairman Niksungla Jamir, Ward GB and chairman. Earlier, welcome address and keynote speech was delivered by EAC & CTC administrator Thejavizo Nakhro.
