DIMAPUR, JUN 6 (NPN): Chümoukedima Town Youth Organisation (CTYO) on Saturday issued a strong warning against illegal taxation, extortion and unauthorised monetary demands in and around Chümoukedima town, reaffirming its zero-tolerance policy against activities that threatened public peace, safety and development.
In a press release, CTYO president Avi Makritsu and general secretary Letsol Thakro said the organisation had received reports of anti-social elements engaging in illegal collections and coercive practices, which placed an undue burden on citizens, businesses, transporters and visitors while undermining the rule of law.
The youth body has urged the public to remain vigilant and report incidents of extortion or illegal taxation to the anti-extortion helpline (+91 87878 93133) or directly to CTYO. It also reiterated the historic resolution adopted by the citizens of Chümoukedima on February 13, 2014, rejecting multiple taxation in any form.
CTYO said it would continue to work closely with law enforcement agencies and stakeholders to ensure a safe, lawful and conducive environment for residents.
Expressing concern over other anti-social activities, the youth organisation stated that vandalism, public nuisance, substance abuse in public places, disorderly conduct and reckless behaviour would not be tolerated within its jurisdiction.
CTYO also expressed concern over the increasing use of modified and excessively loud exhaust systems on vehicles, describing them as a major source of noise pollution affecting children, students, patients and the elderly. It said volunteers would be deployed across wards to identify offending vehicles and coordinate with authorities for appropriate action.
Further, CTYO appealed to motorists to strictly adhere to traffic regulations and the speed limits notified by Dimapur police, including the 50 kmph limit along the NH-29 stretch passing through Chümoukedima town, and cautioned against overspeeding and reckless driving.
On the upcoming Ward-11 by-election, CTYO reaffirmed its commitment to ensuring a free, fair and peaceful electoral process. The youth body maintained that it remained neutral and non-partisan and would not endorse any candidate or political party.
CTYO also cautioned against outside interference, electoral malpractice and any activity that could disrupt the conduct of the election, while urging candidates, supporters and voters to uphold the principles of clean and responsible elections.
