Some car owners and drivers have been found to be reluctant in paying parking fee despite parking their vehicles for hours at the multi-level parking at old medical directorate, PR Hill here. Some of them even indulge in arguments with the parking staff. This was confirmed by a ticket collector at the parking facility.
However, he clarified that most of the car owners and drivers complied with the rules and paid their fee without any argument.
He disclosed that about 130-140 cars were parked on an average daily at the multi-level parking facility that has a capacity to accommodate 180 cars.
The ticket collector informed Nagaland Post that about 150 cars were accommodated on January 8 itself at the NST bus station.
He claimed that many people preferred parking on the road side, rather than use the multi-level parking that was constructed for the citizens. He mentioned that during night carnival in December last year, the multi-level parking was jam packed.
The state capital faced significant challenges due to haphazard roadside parking, leading to traffic congestion daily and wasting citizens’ valuable time. To address this issue, the multi-level parking facility was constructed.
However, despite the availability of this facility, many citizens still preferred roadside parking over utilising the newly-built parking space.
During a conversation with this correspondent, Akho, a resident of Kohima, expressed his preference for double-parking or waiting for an available parking spot, instead of driving to the multi-level parking facility. He mentioned that he would opt to pay a flat fee of Rs 10 for his shopping, rather than paying an hourly parking rate at the multi-level parking.
