CVA clinch 14th Luke Sasong Memorial Volleyball Trophy title

MOKOKCHUNG, SEP 18 (NPN): The Changtongya Volleyball Association (CVA) emerged victorious in the 14th Luke Sasong Memorial Volleyball Trophy, defeating Savage Setters Volleyball Club Chungtia (SSVCC) in a thrilling final match at the multi-purpose indoor stadium on Friday.
CVA clinched the title with set scores of 25-22, 25-19, 14-25, 28-26, showcasing composure and skill to secure the championship.
Changtongya Volleyball Association walked away with the championship trophy and a cash prize of Rs. 80,000, while SSVCC received Rs. 50,000 as runners-up.
The two semi-finalist teams were awarded Rs. 15,000 each. Individual awards of Rs. 5,000 each were also presented to Yongkongtenzuk (CVA) for Best Spiker; Best Setter by Sarilpzung (CVA); and Player of the Tournament by Imtinungba (SSVCC).
The closing ceremony was graced by minister for Rural Development, Metsubo Jamir, as the guest of honor.
In his address, Jamir lauded the organizers for successfully bringing together teams from across Nagaland for three days of spirited competition.
He congratulated all participants, emphasizing that “participation is more important than winning.” Reflecting on the legacy of Luke Sasong, the minister described him as a pioneer whose leadership and vision earned Nagaland the title “Land of Pioneers.”
He urged the gathering to honor Sasong’s memory and called upon young athletes to carry forward his legacy of courage and service.
The tournament, organized by the Luke Sasong Sporting Association (LSSA) under the aegis of the Mangmetong Students’ Union, once again highlighted the values of sportsmanship, youth development and community unity that Luke Sasong championed during his lifetime.
