CVC bars NSCN/GPRN (R) member over alleged extortion and road blockade

DIMAPUR

The Chinglong Village Council (CVC) under Aboi Sub-Division in Mon district has issued a formal warning and imposed sanctions against Y. Yongmeang Konyak, a member of the NSCN/GPRN (Reformation), citing repeated acts of extortion and public harassment within the village jurisdiction.
According to the council’s communique, Konyak allegedly blocked the main lifeline road leading to Chinglong Village and demanded illegal payments from vehicles entering the area. Heavy-loaded trucks were reportedly charged Rs. 1,000, while JCB excavators were forced to pay Rs. 2,000 per entry. Despite multiple appeals and personal requests from the Village Council to cease such activities, the accused allegedly escalated the situation by demanding Rs. 1,00,000 (one lakh) from the council without justification, invoking his status as a national worker.
In response, the Village Council lodged a formal complaint with senior functionaries of the NSCN/GPRN (Reformation), seeking immediate intervention. Following continued non-compliance and defiance, the council convened a meeting on August 25, 2025, and resolved to bar Konyak and his family from receiving any government benefits or schemes routed through the Village Development Board (VDB) and the Village Council.
The CVC further warned all Naga Political Groups and factions against accepting Konyak’s membership without prior consultation with the Chinglong Village Council. Any organization acting contrary to this directive may face a declaration of non-cooperation from the village authorities.
