Chakhesang Youth Front (CYF) has strongly condemned what it described as a “barbaric sexual assault and death threats” against one of its bona fide members in Phek district, allegedly committed by one Hekugha Chophy of Tsutoho village under Zunheboto district on September 24, 2025.
In a press release, CYF president Kevesa Khamo and general secretary Nokho Nyekha said it was deeply disturbed to learn that the accused had reportedly committed similar offences against the same victim on multiple occasions in the past.
The front appealed to law enforcement agencies to intensify the investigation and arrest the accused at the earliest, stating that his continued presence in public posed a threat not only to the victim but also to other innocent citizens.
CYF cautioned that it will not remain a mute spectator and would initiate its own course of action if prompt arrest was not made. It further appealed to the public not to reveal the identity of the victim, stressing that protecting her identity must remain the utmost priority. The front also warned that any individual or group exposing the victim’s identity would face action and be booked under relevant sections of the law.
CYF also warned that any person aiding, providing shelter, or protecting the accused would be held equally responsible. It urged citizens to share any reliable information regarding the accused’s whereabouts with the police or CYF members to aid the investigation.
Expressing concern over the increasing crimes against women, CYF reaffirmed its commitment to ensure justice and women’s safety, urging all right-thinking citizens to condemn the act and cooperate with authorities to ensure swift justice. CYF reiterated that such heinous crimes have no place in the society and would be met with the strongest possible response.
PAPO clarifies: The Phek Area Public Organisation (PAPO) has issued a clarification superseding its earlier statement dated October 4, 2025, regarding the condemnation of sexual assaults allegedly committed by one Hekugha Chophi of Tsutoho village.
In a press statement, PAPO president Wepelo Mebou and general secretary Vechizo Khamo reaffirmed its strong stand against the alleged crimes but expressed regret for inadvertently disclosing the identity of the victim in its earlier release, terming it an “inadvertent error.”
PAPO reiterated its call to all citizens to condemn such heinous acts and assist the law enforcement agencies to ensure that justice was delivered at the earliest. PAPO also urged the competent authorities to handle the case with utmost seriousness and to provide necessary security measures for the safety of the victim.
