Following the arrest of a youth leader of the NDPP and his associates who were arrested at Khatkhati(Assam) for allegedly smuggling crates of Indian Made Foreign Liquor (IMFL) late Wednesday, the issue has sparked strong reaction from the NDPP Youth Wing and Nagaland Pradesh Congress Committee (NPCC).
President of Central Youth Organisation (CYO), NDPP Youth Imchatoba Imchen, in his letter addressed to the state president NDPP informed that the arrested youth leader- Enoch S.Wotsa, son of Dr.Sukhato A. Sema- was a bonafide primary and active member of the party who direct involvement in illegal activities has brought disrepute to the party.
The Youth Wing president argued that such actions not only violate the law but also compromise the party’s core principles of integrity and clean politics. The CYO urged the party leadership to initiate exemplary disciplinary action against Enoch in order to reaffirm the NDPP’s commitment to justice and transparency. The CYO Wing has also forwarded copies of the complaint to the NDPP Secretary General, the Convener of the Disciplinary Action Committee, and the party’s guard file for necessary action. It reiterated its commitment in upholding the values of the NDPP and called for swift measures to restore public confidence in the party’s leadership.
Meanwhile, NPCC has expressed shock and condemnation over the conduct of Enoch Wotsa, government-nominated councillor of Dimapur Municipal Council (DMC), who was apprehended by Khatkati police (Assam) in the early hours of August 13 while reportedly transporting a large quantity of alcohol in a government-registered vehicle along with two private vehicles.
In a press statement, NPCC through its communication department said the incident was not merely a legal violation but a blatant betrayal of public trust.
It alleged that Enoch, who is also the vice president of Nationalist Democratic Progressive Party (NDPP) Youth Wing of Dimapur region, had brought irreparable shame to the people of Nagaland by misusing state resources and flouting the law.
NPCC demanded Enoch’s immediate suspension from DMC pending a full investigation, and filing of criminal proceedings against him and his associates under relevant laws.
It also sought a high-level inquiry into the misuse of government vehicles for illegal activities and fixing accountability on all responsible authorities.
NPCC said the ruling NDPP government owed an explanation to the people of Nagaland for nominating individuals with blatant disregard for the law. It asserted that the incident reflected a “culture of impunity and entitlement” under the present dispensation, where power was abused to protect the well-connected.
Reiterating its commitment to ethical governance and rule of law, NPCC urged the government to act swiftly to restore public confidence and demonstrate that no one was above the law.
