Government Middle School (GMS), Dapfhütsumia Khel, Kohima village, celebrated their 75th anniversary of school establishment, at the khel’s indoor stadium here on Saturday.
Guest of honour, advisor of Urban Development & Municipal Affairs, Dr Neikiesalie (Nicky) Kire, thanked God and congratulated the school for having achieved a milestone.
He observed that government schools had some of the best teachers however often the teachers fail to perform upto their potential citing various reasons.
He opined that if the teachers give their best then the students could do better and come at par with neighbouring states like Mizoram where most toppers are from public schools.
He also said that if the teachers could let their children study in the schools they were teaching then the outcome would be better since everyone wants the best for their children.
Exhorting the students, Dr Kire urged them to look for opportunities other than government jobs.
Earlier the programme chaired by Keduolhoukhoü Kire began with an invocation by Khedi Baptist Church pastor, Dr Ruokuovilie Sachü.
Village Education Committee, chairman, Mhalezolie Kire delivered welcome address while head teacher, Kikrulhoulie Khezhie have a brief history of the school.
A short speech was delivered by D. Khel Council and Methasieü Pienyü proposed the vote of thanks.Special numbers were presented by school students and DYO president, Neisedelie Sachü.
