DAYO, ASUD flay abduction; reiterates ‘one govt, one tax’

Dimapur Ao Youth Organisation (DAYO) and Ao Students’ Union Dimapur (ASTD) have vehemently condemned the abduction and illegal detention and unauthorised intrusion into private property of DAYO executive member on September 26.

In a joint statement, DAYO president Tia Longchar and ASUD president Imnatemsu Pongen cautioned that such illegal act under the pretext on policing would not be tolerated under any circumstances. They pointed out that there were appropriate law enforcement agencies to handle any issues detrimental to the society set up by the State and Central governments.

DAYO and ASUD therefore asserted that they will continue to uphold the rule of law and extend support to law enforcement agencies within their capacity. Reiterating their earlier resolution and clarion call of “one government, one tax” in letter and spirit, DAYO and ASUD expressed strong resentment against continuous harassment of public, especially members of the Ao community by different Naga Political Groups (NPGs) under the disguise of the cease-fire agreements with the government of India.

They, therefore, asserted that any Naga political groups, who would undermine their survival and peaceful existence through intimidation would be equally responded as per the customary law and practices. “Our empathic tolerance and patience understanding should not be taken as a sign of our weaknesses because everything has a limit and breaking point,” they said.
